Class Memoriam

Caroline Lee (Speck) Flerchinger of Walla Walla passed away Monday, Sept. 15,
2003, at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, Ore., surrounded by her
family. She was 60.
Caroline was born Dec. 5, 1942, in Genesee to Irvin Martin Speck and Marie
Elizabeth Cummings. She spent her early years in Genesee before moving to
Lewiston. She graduated from Lewiston High School in 196l.
She met the love of her life and husband of 40 years, Stan, at the freshman
orientation dance at college. Caroline and Stan married April 20, 1963, in
Clarkston and they have five children. She was a devoted mother and homemaker.
Her kindness, generosity and love were felt by all who knew her.
Her greatest joy in life was her family. She also was an avid reader, enjoyed
history, crossword puzzles and attending all of her grandchildren’s games and
special events. Caroline and her family lived in Helix, Ore., for 27 years
before moving to Walla Walla in 1999.
Caroline is survived by her husband, Stan, daughters Kim Clothier of Walla Walla
and Annie Fowler and husband Scott of Kennewick; sons Eric and wife Faith of
Kodiak, Alaska, Kirk and wife Stephanie of Pendleton, Ore., and Nickolas of
Walla Walla; her 10 grandchildren, Josh, Bryan, Kyle, Brendan, Elizabeth, Joey,
Paden, Lydia, Camryn, Caroline and Esther. She also is survived by her sisters,
Christina Howard and husband Terry of Lewiston and Connie Wolfe and husband John
of Viola; brother Mike Speck of Clarkston; her mother-in-law, Ruth Flerchinger
of Clarkston; sister-in-law Myrna Jacobs and husband Martin of Clarkston; and
numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Viewing is from 2 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at the Herring
Groseclose Funeral Home in Walla Walla. The funeral is at 2 p.m. Friday at the
funeral home. Memorials may be made in her name to the Sandcastle Crisis
Daycare in Walla Walla.
