DEXTER D. SILER

Businessman and avid outdoorsman Dexter Dean Siler, 44, of Lewiston died Saturday at his home of cancer.  He had been ill for three and a half months.

He was co-owner of Western Floors at Lewiston and active in several outdoor organizations, including River Access for Tomorrow, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Bryden Canyon Golf Course and Lewis-Clark Snowdrifters snowmobile club.  He also enjoyed hunting with a rifle or bow and scuba diving.  His first bow kill was a cougar in 1986 that is listed in the third edition of the Pope and Young Club’s big game record book.

He was born July 30, 1943, to Bill and Cleone Siler at Choteau, Mont., and lived at Lewiston all his life.  He attended Lewiston High School and served in the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1965.  He married Jody Smith at Lewiston Jan. 17, 1961.  She survives him at the family home.

Survivors also include a daughter, Di Ann Siler of Lewiston; his mother and stepfather, Cleone and Arnold Gunn at Worley, Idaho; his father and stepmother, Bill and Sheryl Siler of Lewiston; a brother, Brian Siler of Lewiston; a sister, Denise Connolly of Lewiston; his grandmother, Ellen Erickson of Helena, Mont.; and a granddaughter.  A sister, Diane Siler, died previously.

A memorial service and wake are planned Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Lewiston Elks Temple VIP room.  The body will be cremated.  The family suggests memorials may be made to Family Hospice, P.O. Box 816, Lewiston, or River Access for Tomorrow, Box 1666, Lewiston.  Mountain View Funeral Home of Lewiston is in charge of arrangements.
