JOHN ARMSTRONG

Dr. John Armstrong Jr., 43, a Lewiston
psychiatrist, died Sunday at Orchards Villa Nursing Center at Lewiston. The
cause of death was complications of multiple sclerosis. He had been a patient
at the nursing center since August 1981.
Armstrong had been a psychiatrist for the Idaho
Mental Health Department at Lewiston from 1975 until 1980, when his illness
forced him to retire.
He was born June 2, 1943 at Farmville, Va., to Dr.
John W. and Margaret C. Armstrong. The family lived at Houston, Texas until
1958, when they moved to Lewiston. He graduated from Lewiston High School in
1961, from the University of Idaho at Moscow in 1965, and from Washington School
of Medicine at St. Louis, Mo., in 1969. He served his internship from 1969 to
1970 at Good Samaritan Hospital at Portland, Ore. His residency was at Barnes
Hospital at St. Louis from 1970 to 1973. He then was employed as a
psychiatrist at Dammasch State Hospital at Portland until coming to Lewiston in
1975.
He married Mary L. Bullard at Lewiston June 11,
1966. They were divorced in 1981. He is survived by his father at Portland;
two sisters, Sally Elliott of Seattle and Mary Unkeles of Portland; and three
brothers, Tim Armstrong of Los Angeles, Joe Armstrong of Longview, Wash., and
Steve Armstrong of Honolulu, Hawaii. His mother died previously.
Rosary will be recited Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at
Vassar-Rawls Funeral Home at Lewiston. The funeral will be Wednesday at 10:30
a.m. at St. James Catholic Church, the Rev. Andrew Schumacher officiating.
Burial will be at Lewis-Clark Memorial Gardens. The family suggests any
memorials be to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 1326 Third Street,
Clarkston, Wash.,
