The funeral for William Carrol Alspach, 54, a
Lewiston resident and supervisor of the WSU machine shop, will be at 11 a.m.
Monday at Vassar-Rawls Funeral Home at Lewiston. The Rev. Jim Higgins of the
Grace Lutheran Church at Lewiston will officiate. Burial will be at the Normal
Hill Cemetery at Lewiston. Viewing will be from 8:30 to 11 a.m. Monday at
Vassar-Rawls.
He died Wednesday at Pullman Memorial Hospital
after having suffered a heart attack while swimming at the Washington State
swimming pool. He had had open heart bypass surgery in 1985.
He was born to Kenneth and Birdie Bowlin Alspach
Dec. 24, 1942, at Lewiston. He grew up and attended school in Lewiston,
graduating from Lewiston High School in 1961. Following graduation, he worked
for Potlatch Corp., at Lewiston.
He married Angie A. Forkner Dec. 19, 1964, at
Lewiston. The couple made their home at Yakima, where he attended the J. M.
Perry Trade School for machinists. They returned to Lewiston in 1966.
He worked as a mold maker for Coleman Industries
and then Omark Industries at Lewiston. He began work as an instrument maker for
the machine shop at Washington State University in 1974. When he died, he was
supervisor of the shop.
He was a member of the Clarkston Moose Lodge and a
charter member of the Clarkston Eagles Lodge. He was a member and vice
president of the Clearwater Fly Casters Club at Pullman and a member of the
Kelly Creek Fly Casters Club at Lewiston. He was an avid and accomplished fly
fisherman who tied his own flies and fly fished whenever he could. He had fly
fished in Belize, Canada, and throughout the Northwest United States. He
especially enjoyed steelhead fishing with flies on the Snake and Clearwater
rivers.
Survivors include his wife at the couple’s Lewiston
home and a son, William L. Alspach of Lewiston.
